Alexandria, Virginia, is home to about 159,000 people. It's a city with a history with a vibrant, entrepreneurial, and creative vibe that's quite unlike any other city near DC. While it's just 7 miles from DC on the western bank of the Potomac River, Alexandria maintains a more intimate feel and most certainly its character and charm. It's an upscale, affluent community with outstanding food, boutiques, and antique shops.

The Alexandria real estate market is diverse. While modern condos and luxury homes exist, much of the city offers 18th-century row homes, colonials, and revival mansions. A few modest bungalows and smaller homes are present, too. Its location brings ample history, which means many renovated, stunning homes throughout the city.

People and Lifestyle

Just minutes from Washington, DC, Alexandria boasts a cosmopolitan feel. As large as it is, it still feels intimate thanks to the 18th and 19th-century architecture, smaller gardens, and walkable lifestyle. People here are bustling about, exploring sidewalk cafes, cobblestone streets, and boutique shops. It’s also pet-friendly. It’s not uncommon to see owners with pets on leashes strolling through the heart of the city.

Much of the city has historical charm, but there's a young energy here. It has a creative, upbeat, and entrepreneurial vibe evident in the numerous shops and small businesses throughout the area. Still, a true suburban feel is evident within the neighborhoods, with tree-lined streets with sidewalks and playgrounds. Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

There’s a strong food scene here, with a number of eco-friendly, green-living destinations along with traditional American fare. Virtue Feed and Grain used to be an 1800s feed and grain warehouse. Today, it’s a busy, two-story restaurant and bar with an eclectic menu. Another fantastic choice for a stellar meal is at Vola’s Dockside Grille, where the fresh seafood, tacos, and cocktails, along with the relaxed atmosphere, help make meals enjoyable. For one of the best steaks in the city, a trip to The Warehouse is in order. Fine dining options also exist, especially at Gadsby’s Tavern. Exceptional quality is also found at Daniel O’Connell’s Irish Restaurant and Bar.
